Abstract: | "This book offers a framework for an American grand strategy with a corresponding approach for visualizing progress towards its achievement. The authors contend that instead of conventional military conflict, irregular warfare (IW)--"activities short of conventional and nuclear warfare that are designed to expand a country's influence and legitimacy, as well as to weaken its adversaries"--along with transnational threats, characterize today's competitive landscape. Thus, in addition to military capabilities, U.S. grand strategy must extend beyond the purview of the DOD. Given that this is an era of crises as well as of competition, any effective strategy must also include ways to preserve and bolster national resilience"-- |
