Abstract:he article discusses whether it is possible to investigate and explore objects when only their documentation is known. Of the more than 25,000 objects recorded in Böhler re:search, approximately 7,500 can be identified through the use of photographic documentation. The majority, i. e. 17,500 objects, are not documented photographically. In addition to editing this visual evidence, the project also examines how object-specific characteristics are documented on the index cards of the Munich art dealership – and whether they can be interpreted by current researchers without seeing the original marking on the piece of art. Finally, a first attempt is made to identify notations of the Julius Böhler art dealership on objects.
