Abstract:The first documented objects which the Bavarian National Museum, founded in 1855, bought from the Kunsthandlung Julius Böhler, established in 1882, date back to the year 1888. The early purchases comprise works on paper as well as furniture, textiles or decorative arts and thus reflect the wide range of interests of both the art dealer and the museum. However, there has always been a certain emphasis on sculptures which were of special interest to both. The contacts strongly intensified after WWII when works offered by Böhler were restored in the museum, and the museum helped with cataloguing the sculptures of the Böhler art collection. From 1981 onwards, many works of this collection were displayed at the museum.
