| Abstract: | "This book returns to the question at the center of our existence, a question that the narcissistic culture in which we are immersed systematically tends to obliterate: why? It argues that we can find the meaning of our lives through the care of desire and practices of emotional sharing that ground relationships of care. The underlying thesis is that the answer lies not in success or social recognition, but in a "fragment of truth", hidden somewhere within each of us, which only reveals itself when we detach ourselves from our ego, its certainties, and its self-referential horizon, and open ourselves to the world. The novelty of this book is that it rethinks philosophy as an exercise of transformation for learning to live, that is, for giving rise to a horizon of meaning that was not given to us at our biological birth. In fact, we come into the world without having finished being born. For this reason, living is not something automatic or to be taken for granted, but becomes a veritable craft that, like all other crafts, requires a hard apprenticeship.
