| Abstract: | Brings visibility and recognition to the artistic and poetic importance of Afro-Brazilian artist, Manuel Messias dos Santos (1945-2001). Due to a troubled biography, marked by poverty and psychic disorders, the work and life of Manuel Messias went through a historical erasure over the years. With the coordination of Marcus da Lontra Costa and Rafael Fortes Peixoto, the book was prepared from three main axes: For the first axis, the researcher Izabel Ferreira collected data in more than 200 articles in newspapers and publications and carried out several interviews with friends, artists and people who lived with Messias. This investigation, in addition to a fundamental need to reconstruct his biography, proved his active participation in the Brazilian art scene for 30 years, with national and international exhibitions, being awarded several times and with critical unanimity regarding his work. |
