Abstract: | "What is the role of revolutionary art in times of distress? When Emory Douglas, former Minister of Culture of the Black Panther Party, accepted an invitation from the art collective EDELO and Rigo 23 to meet with autonomous and Indigenous and Zapatista communities in Chiapas, Mexico, they addressed just this question. Zapantera Negra is the result of their encounter. It unites the bold aesthetics, revolutionary dreams, and dignified declarations of two leading movements that redefine emancipatory politics in the twentieth and twenty-first century. The artists of the Black Panthers and the Zapatistas were born into a centuries-long struggle against racial capitalism and colonialism, state repression and international war and plunder. Not only did these two movements offer the world an enduring image of freedom and dignified rebellion, they did so with rebellious style, putting culture and aesthetics at the forefront of political life. A powerful elixir of hope and determination, Zapantera Negra provides a galvanizing presentation of interviews, militant artwork, and original documents from these two movements' struggle for dignity and liberation." -- Publisher's description |

spelling | Zapantera Negra an artistic encounter between Black Panthers and Zapatistas edited by Marc James Léger and David Tomas ; with Emory Douglas, EDELO (Mia Eve Rollow and Caleb Duarte Piñon), Rigo 23, and Saúl Kak Brooklyn, NY ; Philadelphia, PA Common Notions [2022] xxix, 204 Seiten Illustrationen 22 cm txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier "What is the role of revolutionary art in times of distress? A powerful elixir of hope and determination, Zapantera Negra provides a galvanizing presentation of interviews, militant artwork, and original documents from these two movements' struggle for dignity and liberation." -- Publisher's description Rollow, Mia Eve 1984- (DE-588)1263494315 gnd rswk-swf Douglas, Emory 1945- (DE-588)132979047 gnd rswk-swf Piñon, Caleb Duarte 1982- (DE-588)126349482X gnd rswk-swf Kak, Saúl 1985- (DE-588)1263496539 gnd rswk-swf Rigo 23 1966- (DE-588)1065406290 gnd rswk-swf Black Panther Party (DE-588)4222569-3 gnd rswk-swf Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (DE-588)1233765-1 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1966-2021 gnd rswk-swf Revolution (DE-588)4049680-6 gnd rswk-swf Künstlervereinigung (DE-588)4165895-4 gnd rswk-swf Manifest (DE-588)4205648-2 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Politische Kunst (DE-588)4175029-9 gnd rswk-swf Chiapas (DE-588)4009919-2 gnd rswk-swf Black Panther Party Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (Mexico) Protest movements / Mexico Protest movements / United States Radicalism / United States Radicalism / Mexico Art / Political aspects / United States Art / Political aspects / Mexico (DE-588)4027503-6 Interview gnd-content Chiapas (DE-588)4009919-2 g Black Panther Party (DE-588)4222569-3 b Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (DE-588)1233765-1 b Künstlervereinigung (DE-588)4165895-4 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Revolution (DE-588)4049680-6 s Politische Kunst (DE-588)4175029-9 s Manifest (DE-588)4205648-2 s Geschichte 1966-2021 z DE-604 Rigo 23 1966- (DE-588)1065406290 p Piñon, Caleb Duarte 1982- (DE-588)126349482X p Douglas, Emory 1945- (DE-588)132979047 p Kak, Saúl 1985- (DE-588)1263496539 p Rollow, Mia Eve 1984- (DE-588)1263494315 p Léger, Marc James 1968- (DE-588)132688573 edt Tomas, David 1950- (DE-588)130410403 edt Douglas, Emory 1945- (DE-588)132979047 ctb Rollow, Mia Eve 1984- (DE-588)1263494315 ctb Piñon, Caleb Duarte 1982- (DE-588)126349482X ctb Rigo 23 1966- (DE-588)1065406290 ctb Kak, Saúl 1985- (DE-588)1263496539 ctb Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 978-1-94217-363-2 |
