Cognitive linguists and psychologists have often argued that language is best understood as an association network; however, while the network view ot language has had a significant impact on the stuck ot morphology and lexical semantics, it is only recently that researchers have taken an explicit network approach to the study of syntax. Ibis innovative studv presents a dynamic network model of grammar in which all aspects ot linguistic structure, including core concepts of syntax (e.g.. phrase structure, word classes, grammatical relations), are anale zed in terms of associative connections between different te pes ot linguistic elements. lhe.se associations are shaped be՝ domain general learning processes that are operatiee in language use and sensitive to frequence ot occurrence. I Haw ing on research I rom usage based linguistics and ogn it ie e psychologe, the book proe ides an overe iew ot frequence etiects in grammar anti anale /es these eticets within the Irameeeork of a de narnic netevork model.
