Abstract:A collection of historical images rescued from archives, vintage watercolors and a current photographic essay by noted photographer Rogério Reis, weave this invisible thread identifying the French places and built patrimony in Rio de Janeiro, in an edition inspired by the expression consecrated by the collective work directed by Pierre Nora, entitled Les lieux de Mémoireʺ, published in three volumes between 1984 and 1992. This book bring to light, among others historic characters that were part of the carioca elite, such as Louis Pharoux, along with the history of the Villegagnon Island; the Petit Trianon, home of the 1922 Universal Exposition, which today houses the Brazilian Academy of Letters; the gardens of Glaziou, in Quinta da Boa Vista; and so many other iconic buildings along the portico inside the Botanical Garden was actually an element of the facade of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, demolished in 1938 to make way for the modernization of Rio de Janeiro
