Researchers believe that the universe is vast and old enough that life has evolved and become intelligent and technological many times on different worlds, yet we have, thus far, seen no trace of alien civilization. This conundrum, known as Fermi s paradox, has become the deepest mystery in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. In The Great Silence, Professor Milan Ćirković aims to establish the strongest possible version of the problem to dispe! many related confusions, obfuscations, and prejudices. The book offers a novel point of entry to established theories, and provides a novel taxonomy of the solutions proposed. The relevance of Fermi’s paradox to life sciences, futures studies, macro-engineering, and philosophy is elaborated on in detail, as are the prospects humanity faces in our widest cosmic context and in the fullness of time. This book aims to shed some light on that biggest of questions:
