Abstract:The publication 'Prix de Rome 2017' presents the work of the four talented young artists that an international jury shortlisted for the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2017. The nominees are Melanie Bonajo, Rana Hamadeh, Saskia Noor van Imhoff and Katarina Zdjelar. The jury was impressed by the selected artists' innovative attitude, their reflection on the present era and the layered structure of their work. This publication highlights the oeuvres and the new work of the four shortlisted artists. One of the authors, the winner of the stimulation award connected to the Award for the Young Art Critic 2016, is Julia Mullié. With this commission the Prix de Rome also underlines the importance of encouraging a new generation of art critics. The Prix de Rome is the oldest prize for visual artists and architects below the age of 40 in the Netherlands. The purpose of the award is to identify talented artists and to encourage them to further develop and increase their visibility. The winning artist will receive 40.000 euros and a residency in Rome. The Prix de Rome is organized by the Mondriaan Fund
