Zusammenfassung: | African oral literature, like other forms of popular culture, is not merely folksy, domestic entertainment but a domain in which individuals in a variety of social roles are free to comment on power relations in society. It can also be a significant agent of change capable of directing, provoking, preventing, overturning and recasting social reality. This collection examines the way in which oral texts both reflect and affect contemporary social and political life in Africa. It addresses questions of power, gender, the dynamics of language use, the representation of social structures and the relation between culture and the state. The contributors are linguists, anthropologists, folklorists, ethnomusicologists and historians, who present fresh material and ideas to paint a lively picture of current real-life situations. The book is an important contribution to the study of African culture and literature, and to the anthropological study of oral literature in particular |

The power of words and the relation between Hausa genres / Graham Furniss African oral literature, like other forms of popular culture, is not merely folksy, domestic entertainment but a domain in which individuals in a variety of social roles are free to comment on power relations in society. The book is an important contribution to the study of African culture and literature, and to the anthropological study of oral literature in particular Alltag, Brauchtum Politik Oral tradition / Africa Folklore / Africa Narrative poetry, African Power (Social sciences) / Africa Social structure / Africa Marginality, Social / Africa Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Volksliteratur (DE-588)4135284-1 gnd rswk-swf Mündliche Literatur (DE-588)4131940-0 gnd rswk-swf Sozialstruktur (DE-588)4055898-8 gnd rswk-swf Macht (DE-588)4036824-5 gnd rswk-swf Mündliche Überlieferung (DE-588)4040600-3 gnd rswk-swf Randgruppe (DE-588)4048390-3 gnd rswk-swf Afrika Africa / Politics and government Africa / Social life and customs Subsaharisches Afrika (DE-588)4053770-5 gnd rswk-swf Afrika (DE-588)4000695-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 1991 London gnd-content Afrika (DE-588)4000695-5 g Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Mündliche Überlieferung (DE-588)4040600-3 s 2\p DE-604 Sozialstruktur (DE-588)4055898-8 s 3\p DE-604 Subsaharisches Afrika (DE-588)4053770-5 g Volksliteratur (DE-588)4135284-1 s 4\p DE-604 Randgruppe (DE-588)4048390-3 s 5\p DE-604 Mündliche Literatur (DE-588)4131940-0 s 6\p DE-604 Macht (DE-588)4036824-5 s 7\p DE-604 Furniss, Graham edt Gunner, Elizabeth edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-08794-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-48061-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511521164 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
