A history of Russian philosophy 1830-1930: faith, reason, and the defense of human dignity
The great age of Russian philosophy spans the century between 1830 and 1930 - from the famous Slavophile-Westernizer controversy of the 1830s and 1840s, through the 'Silver Age' of Russian culture at the beginning of the twentieth century, to the formation of a Russian 'philosophical...

Zusammenfassung: | The great age of Russian philosophy spans the century between 1830 and 1930 - from the famous Slavophile-Westernizer controversy of the 1830s and 1840s, through the 'Silver Age' of Russian culture at the beginning of the twentieth century, to the formation of a Russian 'philosophical emigration' in the wake of the Russian Revolution. This volume is a major history and interpretation of Russian philosophy in this period. Eighteen chapters (plus a substantial introduction and afterword) discuss Russian philosophy's main figures, schools and controversies, while simultaneously pursuing a common central theme: the development of a distinctive Russian tradition of philosophical humanism focused on the defence of human dignity. As this volume shows, the century-long debate over the meaning and grounds of human dignity, freedom and the just society involved thinkers of all backgrounds and positions, transcending easy classification as 'religious' or 'secular'. The debate still resonates strongly today |

The debate still resonates strongly today Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1830-1930 gnd rswk-swf Philosophy, Russian / 19th century Philosophy, Russian / 20th century Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 gnd rswk-swf Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content 2\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift gnd-content Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 g Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 s Geschichte 1830-1930 z 3\p DE-604 Hamburg, Gary M. 1950- (DE-588)141221755 edt Poole, Randall A. 1964- (DE-588)13183696X edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-0-521-88450-1 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-107-61278-5 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511712227 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
