Zusammenfassung: | Thinking and writing about the past has always been of critical importance to the way that any culture or civilization views itself and its role in the world. In a work which surveys an entire tradition of historical thought and writing across a span of eight hundred years, Tarif Khalidi examines how Arabic-Islamic culture of the pre-modern period viewed the past, how it recorded it, and how it sought to answer the many complex questions associated with the discipline of history. The author combines a chronological and a topical approach to place the tradition within its wider intellectual context, while quotations from historians across the period introduce the English-speaking reader to some of the principal texts of Arabic-Islamic culture |

The khabar: four formulations of the 5th/11th century Thinking and writing about the past has always been of critical importance to the way that any culture or civilization views itself and its role in the world. The author combines a chronological and a topical approach to place the tradition within its wider intellectual context, while quotations from historians across the period introduce the English-speaking reader to some of the principal texts of Arabic-Islamic culture Geschichte 700-1400 gnd rswk-swf Historiography / Islamic Empire Araber (DE-588)4002528-7 gnd rswk-swf Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 gnd rswk-swf Arabisch (DE-588)4241223-7 gnd rswk-swf Geschichtsdenken (DE-588)4071770-7 gnd rswk-swf Islamic Empire / Historiography Arabien (DE-588)4002529-9 gnd rswk-swf Araber (DE-588)4002528-7 s Geschichtsdenken (DE-588)4071770-7 s Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 s Geschichte 700-1400 z 1\p DE-604 Arabisch (DE-588)4241223-7 s 2\p DE-604 Arabien (DE-588)4002529-9 g 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-46554-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-58938-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511583650 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
