Zusammenfassung: | Rationalistic theories of the workplace and the claims typically made by organizations stress that an individual's access to the resources and advantages of an organization are determined by his or her qualifications and contributions to the collective enterprise, and that the payoffs for effort are essentially the same for all doing similar work. However, as Jon Miller shows in this book, negotiating for workplace rewards is actually far more complicated than this model allows, and he demonstrates that access to networks of organizational communication is in fact fundamentally influenced by race and gender. Comparing patterns of access to informal colleague networks and relations to the decision-making apparatus for white and non-white men and women in American public service organizations, he shows that only white males experienced a fairly close correspondence between their bureaucratic 'investments' and their workplace rewards |

However, as Jon Miller shows in this book, negotiating for workplace rewards is actually far more complicated than this model allows, and he demonstrates that access to networks of organizational communication is in fact fundamentally influenced by race and gender. Comparing patterns of access to informal colleague networks and relations to the decision-making apparatus for white and non-white men and women in American public service organizations, he shows that only white males experienced a fairly close correspondence between their bureaucratic 'investments' and their workplace rewards Discrimination in employment / United States Sex discrimination in employment / United States Race discrimination / United States Organisation (DE-588)4043774-7 gnd rswk-swf Arbeitsplatz (DE-588)4002759-4 gnd rswk-swf Gleichberechtigung (DE-588)4021216-6 gnd rswk-swf Lohngleichheit (DE-588)4036237-1 gnd rswk-swf Lohn (DE-588)4036229-2 gnd rswk-swf Diskriminierung (DE-588)4012472-1 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Lohngleichheit (DE-588)4036237-1 s 1\p DE-604 Gleichberechtigung (DE-588)4021216-6 s Arbeitsplatz (DE-588)4002759-4 s 2\p DE-604 Lohn (DE-588)4036229-2 s 3\p DE-604 Organisation (DE-588)4043774-7 s 4\p DE-604 Diskriminierung (DE-588)4012472-1 s 5\p DE-604 6\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-03238-4 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-32365-9 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511557750 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
