Zusammenfassung: | The emergence of East Germany as one of Europe's most vocal advocates of East-West détente in the 1980s represented a remarkable political transformation. Prior to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, East Germany had been amongst the most intransigent proponents of the Cold War, largely because of the perceived threat to the domestic authority of its own leadership. Renewed exposure, however, prompted that leadership to regard good relations with the West as integral rather than inimical to its own pursuit of legitimacy. Of interest not only to scholars of communist politics but to all students of East-West affairs, Professor McAdams' study demonstrates both the changing historical significance of the idea of detente, and the way in which non-superpower states can take initially adverse circumstances and turn them into instances of opportunity |

James McAdams East Germany & Detente Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1985 1 online resource (xi, 233 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Cambridge Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet studies 49 Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) The emergence of East Germany as one of Europe's most vocal advocates of East-West détente in the 1980s represented a remarkable political transformation. Of interest not only to scholars of communist politics but to all students of East-West affairs, Professor McAdams' study demonstrates both the changing historical significance of the idea of detente, and the way in which non-superpower states can take initially adverse circumstances and turn them into instances of opportunity Geschichte 1961-1984 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1961-1980 gnd rswk-swf Außenpolitik Politik Detente Berlin Wall, Berlin, Germany, 1961-1989 Entspannungspolitik (DE-588)4046533-0 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Innenpolitik (DE-588)4027058-0 gnd rswk-swf Politisches System (DE-588)4046584-6 gnd rswk-swf Germany (East) / Politics and government Germany (East) / Foreign relations Deutschland DDR (DE-588)4011890-3 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland DDR (DE-588)4011890-3 g Innenpolitik (DE-588)4027058-0 s Geschichte 1961-1980 z 1\p DE-604 Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Geschichte 1961-1984 z 2\p DE-604 Entspannungspolitik (DE-588)4046533-0 s 3\p DE-604 Politisches System (DE-588)4046584-6 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-05496-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-26835-6 Cambridge Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet studies 49 (DE-604)BV047656102 49 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511521874 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
