The two-volume edition is based on interdisciplinary and
contextual approaches to the analysis of long-term national
survey data and reflects upon the state and dynamics of mass
consciousness, incentive motives and behavioral practices of
Russians in transitions over the last twenty-five years.
The first volume is devoted to the essence and role of sociol-
ogy in modern society, its abilities to study the non-economic
factors as a macrosocial resource of society economic develop-
ment. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of Russian
public opinion in Soviet, Perestroika and post-Soviet times are
investigated as well.
The second volume presents a detailed analysis of Russian
everyday life striking phenomena: features of poverty in the
Russian social context, social inequalities covering the basics
of people life, specifics of modern middle class. Special atten-
tion is paid to Russian society in the face of new challenges
and risks associated with current economic crisis and aggrava-
tion of international situation. The fifth part of the volume is
devoted to Russian youth, its moral values, life plans, political
and leisure preferences of young Russians. The final part is
based on the author’s interviews to leading Russian media as
the examples of sociology involvement in public space.
The book is addressed to experts and to all those interested in
the issues of reforms in Russia and their perception and reflec-
tion in mass consciousness and life practices of Russians.
