Beschreibung:During the last few years, more and more data is stored in relational database systems which were stored in hierarchical database systems or in VSAM data sets before. In this respect, DB2 plays a leading role in big enterprises for the administration of business critical data. This new situation requires consideration of DB2 performance issues. In many of these enterprises, the situation is indeed characterized by the fact that the staff is used to dealing with the pitfalls of VSAM or IMS due to many years of experience. Therefore, the resulting VSAM or IMS based applications are highperformance systems. The attempt, however, to apply on DB2 the same tuning measures as on the other systems is doomed to failure due to the different system structures. This is one of the reasons why DB2 has a reputation of preventing the generation of high performance systems. Consequently, because of the singular system structure, other measures are necessary in order to realize high performance application systems. This book is not a comprehensive basic work on DB2 but a manual for the solution of performance problems caused by the application systems' design. It is assumed that the system parameters are "right". The book shares a multitude of experiences gained through daily practice with numerous projects
