Beschreibung:Although Willem de Poorter (1607/08–1648 or after) is generally mentioned in art-historical literature only in relation to the role of Rembrandt (1606–1669) as teacher, he is unlikely to have trained with him in Leiden. De Poorter's earliest extant paintings are more closely related to the work of a number of Haarlem painters than to Rembrandt's. His drawn copy after Rembrandt's Susanna (Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin) of 1636 suggests, however, that the Haarlem artist may have briefly worked under the latter's supervision in Amsterdam in the mid-1630s
