Zusammenfassung: | Drawing on current changes in the Latin American political economy, this book offers a novel argument about power and policy change involving developing countries and international organizations. It is timely in that it comes at a moment when several Latin American countries are experiencing a shift to more nationalistic projects of development, in stark contrast to the neoliberal reforms led by the International Financial Institutions across Latin America during the last two decades. In addition to a detailed case study of the changing political economy of Argentina and empirical analysis on regional trends, the book offers a theoretical engagement between critical perspectives in IPE and actor-oriented models of policy-making, in particular the literature of policy transfer and networks. It provides new evidence of the power of the local actors and home-grown ideas to question, and even alter, the established rules and institutions of the global economy.Drawing on the Latin American political economy, this book brings to the fore empirical questions on different patterns of involvement of IFIs in pursuing politically-sensitive reforms, the capacity of local actors to influence outcomes, the context in which they interact, the type of policy ideas conveyed, and the policy process that are advanced. |
