| Abstract: | In [this book, the author] focuses on comparative topical issues such as political culture, executive leadership, legislatures, and parties. Each chapter begins with a theoretical introduction that offers a comparative perspective and links Russia and the successor states to other parts of the world. Designed for comparativists rather than specialists, [this book] sheds fresh light on an emerging democracy and explores how such an astonishing world event came to be. This study of Russia and the successor states is framed within a theoretical examination of democratization and encompasses the first efforts at reform and democratization in the nineteenth century that led to the eventual creation of a pluralistic society, with its beginning as early as the Khurshchev era, and the monumental movement toward democratization after 1991.-Back cover. |
