Abstract: | Abstract: "This paper describes unique aspects of a logic programming language called CIL. CIL is an extension of the standard Prolog with motivations for linguistic analysis. CIL handles the record structure and constraint predicates on the structure. The record is understood as an extension of the usual first order ground term. Also parametric records are introduced as a partial description of a record. The usual unification over the first order terms is extended to that over the records straightforwardly. The unification algorithm is presented whose complexity is almost linear Thus some version of the unification grammar formalisms is as well embedded into CIL in a natural way as Definite Clause Grammar is embedded into the standard Prolog. A combination of the record structure and the constraint adds a simple but powerful feature to logic programming for computational models of linguistic information. The implementation of record is described in detail. Also the built-in library of CIL for constraint is described. Several intended uses of CIL are explained with small examples, which includes linguistic analysis based on unification grammar and situation semantics. |
