Abstract:Abstract: "A great deal of research has been done on applying partial evaluation for optimizing meta-programs in Prolog, such as a rule interpreter with a certainty factor, a bottom-up parser and a formula manipulation system. It has been claimed that the technique is very useful in developing various inference engines for knowledge based systems. However, nobody has succeeded in deriving an efficient production system (PS) through partial evaluation. This paper presents the derivation of an efficient PS by partially evaluating a simple PS interpreter, given a set of rules. The derived codes are shown to be very similar to the compiled codes given by [Shintani 88]."
