Zusammenfassung:In construkting a health status measure it is necessary first to choose and classify dimensions and items for inclusion in such a measure, and secondly to "scale", i.e., value, these dimensions and items. There has been a significant amount of work undertaken on scaling both from the methodological point of view and in the practical application of scaling techniques in health status measurement. This report covers two major themes: 1) An explanation of scaling measures. 2) An investigation of a number of major issues in health scaling. After a brief outline of measurement theory, the report explains and reviews four scaling techniques commonly used in health status measurement: 1) Category Scaling (also referred to as Category Rating or Rating Scales), 2) Magnitude Estimation, 3) Standard Gamble, and 4) Time Trade-Off technique.
