Abstract: | The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is the site of the largest mass repression of an ethnic and/or religious minority in the world today. Researchers estimate that since 2016 one million people have been detained there without trial. In the detention centres individuals are exposed to deeply invasive forms of surveillance and psychological stress, while outside them more than ten million Turkic Muslim minorities are subjected to a network of hi-tech surveillance systems, checkpoints and interpersonal monitoring. Existing reportage and commentary on the crisis tends to address these issues in isolation, but this ground-breaking volume brings them together, exploring the interconnections between the core strands of the Xinjiang emergency in order to generate a more accurate understanding of the mass detentions' significance for the future of President Xi Jinping's China |

Existing reportage and commentary on the crisis tends to address these issues in isolation, but this ground-breaking volume brings them together, exploring the interconnections between the core strands of the Xinjiang emergency in order to generate a more accurate understanding of the mass detentions' significance for the future of President Xi Jinping's China Minderheitenfrage (DE-588)4169999-3 gnd rswk-swf Politische Verfolgung (DE-588)4046565-2 gnd rswk-swf Uiguren (DE-588)4061491-8 gnd rswk-swf Polizeistaat (DE-588)4128875-0 gnd rswk-swf Sinkiang (DE-588)4077460-0 gnd rswk-swf Uighur (Turkic people) / China / Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu Uighur (Turkic people) / China / Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu / Government relations Detention of persons / China / Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu (China) / Ethnic relations / History / 21st century Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu (China) / Politics and government Ouïgour (Peuple turc) / Chine / Xinjiang Ouïgour (Peuple turc) / Chine / Xinjiang / Relations avec l'État Xinjiang (Chine) / Relations interethniques / Histoire / 21e siècle POLITICAL SCIENCE / Political Ideologies / Communism, Post-Communism & Socialism Detention of persons Ethnic relations Politics and government Uighur (Turkic people) China / Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu / https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39QbtfRpdb3yPCw9JJcFM88Pp 2000-2099 History (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2019 Canberra gnd-content Sinkiang (DE-588)4077460-0 g Uiguren (DE-588)4061491-8 s Politische Verfolgung (DE-588)4046565-2 s Minderheitenfrage (DE-588)4169999-3 s Polizeistaat (DE-588)4128875-0 s DE-604 Clarke, Michael 1977- (DE-588)1011595699 edt Australian National University (DE-588)1024028-7 oth Erscheint auch als Xinjiang emergency Manchester : Manchester University Press, 2022 Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 1-5261-5309-2 978-1-5261-5309-8 Erscheint auch als Xinjiang emergency Manchester : Manchester University Press, 2022 Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-5261-5311-1 https://doi.org/10.7765/9781526153128 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
