Abstract: | "In contrast to literary or cultural studies linguistics is not taught in the EFL classroom, yet, it plays a major role in any English language teaching degree. Given this discrepancy it does not come as a surprise that students sometimes ask: "I want to be a teacher! Why do I need all this?" The main goal of this textbook is to demonstrate the relevance of linguistic expertise for the EFL classroom. It explores a wide range of topics (phonetics/phonology, lexis, corpus linguistics, text linguistics and the power of language) with a clear focus on providing a convincing answer to the question above. With its highly accessible style and layout, a wealth of examples and exercises as well as a large range of additional innovative online materials this textbook sets out to convince its readers that they will be better teachers if they are good linguists." |

The main goal of this textbook is to demonstrate the relevance of linguistic expertise for the EFL classroom. It explores a wide range of topics (phonetics/phonology, lexis, corpus linguistics, text linguistics and the power of language) with a clear focus on providing a convincing answer to the question above. With its highly accessible style and layout, a wealth of examples and exercises as well as a large range of additional innovative online materials this textbook sets out to convince its readers that they will be better teachers if they are good linguists."</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Englischlehrer</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4152284-9</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fachdidaktik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4123176-4</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Linguistik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4074250-7</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Englischunterricht</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4014801-4</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English Linguistics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EFL Classroom</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Teacher of English</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Sounds</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Phonetics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Phonology</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lexis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Words</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lexical Phrases</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Mental Lexicon</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Collocation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Classroom</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Corpus Linguistics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Corpus Analysis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Corpora</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Text Linguistics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Textuality</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Themes and Rhemes</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Rhetorical Structure</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Sentence Structure</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Clause Pattern</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Spoken and Written English.
