Abstract: | "Johan Huizinga's much-loved and much-contested Autumn of the Middle Ages, first published in 1919, encouraged an image of the Late French Middle Ages as a flamboyant but empty period of decline and nostalgia. Many studies, particularly literary studies, have challenged Huizinga's perceptions of individual works or genres. Still, the vision of the Late French and Burgundian Middle Ages as a sad transitional phase between the High Middle Ages and the Renaissance persists. Yet, a series of exceptionally significant cultural developments mark the period. The Waxing of the Middle Ages sets out to provide a rich, complex, and diverse study of these developments and to reassert that late medieval France is crucial in its own right. The collection argues for an approach that views the late medieval period not as an afterthought, or a blind spot, but as a period that is key in understanding the fluidity of time, traditions, culture, and history. Each essay explores some "cultural form," to borrow Huizinga's expression, to expose the false divide that has dominated modern scholarship" |

Each essay explores some "cultural form," to borrow Huizinga's expression, to expose the false divide that has dominated modern scholarship" Geschichte 1400-1500 gnd rswk-swf Mittelalter (DE-588)4129108-6 gnd rswk-swf Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 gnd rswk-swf Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf France / History / 15th century France / Social life and customs / 15th century France / Civilization / 1328-1600 France / History / 15th century / Historiography Huizinga, Johan / 1872-1945 / Influence Huizinga, Johan / 1872-1945 Civilization Historiography Influence (Literary, artistic, etc.) Manners and customs France 1328-1600 History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Mittelalter (DE-588)4129108-6 s Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 s Geschichtsschreibung (DE-588)4020531-9 s Geschichte 1400-1500 z DE-604 Adams, Tracy 1959- (DE-588)13366239X edt Morand-Métivier, Charles-Louis (DE-588)1306483689 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, pdf 978-1-64453-294-2 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, epub 978164453292-8 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, mobi 978164453293-5 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034314120&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
