Abstract:Opera buffa in four acts (1786), Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte after Le Mariage de Figaro by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais Mozart's famous opera is here given a modern interpretation while staying faithful to the original score and libretto, which proves the timeless nature of this story, originally written for theater by Beaumarchais. The action takes place in the wedding office of a city hall. Actors are dressed in modern costumes and use our everyday life accessories: Susanna listens to her walkman during Cherubino's aria and Count Almaviva uses his recliner as a seduction tool! The most striking element of this staging is perhaps the "recitativist," a concept invented Christoph Marthaler to transmit the importance of Da Ponte's texts. Recitatives are not played on harpsichord but on an electronic keyboard that is on the stage and alternates from the classical sound of the harpsichord to the harmonica, accordion or even sound effects
