Abstract: | "The sixteen essays in this volume trace the development of Platonism in the history of Western thought, starting with the revival of the Platonic tradition in the early modern period that followed the rediscovery and translation of important Greek texts. Special attention is devoted to Marsilio Ficino's translations and commentaries; to the relationship between Platonism and Christianity; to the influence of Platonic metaphysics on the mystical tradition - in particular on Jacob Böhme and Emanuel Swedenborg; to the impact of idealism on the hermeneutical criticism of traditional philosophical categories and to the ways in which the so-called 'Critique of Modernity' promoted a new reading of the Platonic dialogues. The emphasis throughout is on demonstrating the theoretical and historical continuity of Platonism over the centuries" |

The emphasis throughout is on demonstrating the theoretical and historical continuity of Platonism over the centuries" Platonists Philosophy, Modern / History (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2012 Cagliari gnd-content Rees, Valery 1947- (DE-588)1033238872 edt Corrias, Anna (DE-588)1221394126 edt Crasta, Francesca Maria (DE-588)1224573404 edt Follesa, Laura 1984- (DE-588)1128445719 edt Giglioni, Guido 1964- (DE-588)1060847221 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-90-04-35893-5 (DE-604)BV047051807 Brill's studies in intellectual history volume 320 (DE-604)BV041119309 320 https://doi.org/10.1163/9789004437425 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
