Zusammenfassung: | Medieval European literature was once thought to have been isolationist in its nature, but recent scholarship has revealed the ways in which Spanish and Italian authors – including Cervantes and Marco Polo – were influenced by Arabic poetry, music, and philosophy. A Sea of Languages brings together some of the most influential scholars working in Muslim-Christian-Jewish cultural communications today to discuss the convergence of the literary, social, and economic histories of the medieval Mediterranean. This volume takes as a starting point María Rosa Menocal's groundbreaking work The Arabic Role in Medieval Literary History, a major catalyst in the reconsideration of prevailing assumptions regarding the insularity of medieval European literature. Reframing ongoing debates within literary studies in dynamic new ways, A Sea of Languages will become a critical resource and reference point for a new generation of scholars and students on the intersection of Arabic and European literature |

spelling | A Sea of Languages Rethinking the Arabic Role in Medieval Literary History Suzanne Conklin Akbari, Karla Mallette Toronto University of Toronto Press [2018] © 2013 1 online resource txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Description based on online resource; title from PDF title page (publisher's Web site, viewed 23. Nov 2018) Medieval European literature was once thought to have been isolationist in its nature, but recent scholarship has revealed the ways in which Spanish and Italian authors – including Cervantes and Marco Polo – were influenced by Arabic poetry, music, and philosophy. Reframing ongoing debates within literary studies in dynamic new ways, A Sea of Languages will become a critical resource and reference point for a new generation of scholars and students on the intersection of Arabic and European literature In English Geschichte 500-1500 gnd rswk-swf Comparative literature Arabic and European Comparative literature European and Arabic Literature, Medieval Arab influences Romance-language literature Arab influences Arabisch (DE-588)4241223-7 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Mittelmeerraum (DE-588)4074900-9 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Mittelmeerraum (DE-588)4074900-9 g Arabisch (DE-588)4241223-7 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Geschichte 500-1500 z 2\p DE-604 Akbari, Suzanne Conklin edt Mallette, Karla edt https://doi.org/10.3138/9781442663398 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
