Zusammenfassung: | This book brings together cutting-edge scholarship from the United States and Europe to address political as well as cultural responses to both the arms race of the 1980s and the ascent of nuclear energy as a second, controversial dimension of the nuclear age. Diverse in its topics and disciplinary approaches, Nuclear Threats, Nuclear Fear and the Cold War of the 1980s makes a fundamental contribution to the emerging historiography of the 1980s as a whole. As of now, the era's nuclear tensions have been addressed by scholars mostly from the standpoint of security studies, focused on the geo-strategic deliberations of political elites and at the level of state policy. Yet nuclear anxieties, as the essays in this volume document, were so pervasive that they profoundly shaped the era's culture, its habits of mind, and its politics, far beyond the domain of policy |

Yet nuclear anxieties, as the essays in this volume document, were so pervasive that they profoundly shaped the era's culture, its habits of mind, and its politics, far beyond the domain of policy Geschichte 1975-1989 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Antinuclear movement / History / Congresses World politics / 1975-1985 / Congresses World politics / 1985-1995 / Congresses Cold War / Congresses Atomare Rüstung (DE-588)4112614-2 gnd rswk-swf Antikernkraftbewegung (DE-588)4002288-2 gnd rswk-swf Ost-West-Konflikt (DE-588)4075770-5 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift Deutsches Historisches Institut Washington DC 04.11.2010-06.11.2010 Washington, DC gnd-content USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Ost-West-Konflikt (DE-588)4075770-5 s Atomare Rüstung (DE-588)4112614-2 s Antikernkraftbewegung (DE-588)4002288-2 s Geschichte 1975-1989 z DE-604 Conze, Eckart 1963- (DE-588)121880583 edt Klimke, Martin 1977- (DE-588)131396943 edt Varon, Jeremy 1969- (DE-588)173684742 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-107-13628-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/9781316479742 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
