Zusammenfassung: | This 2005 book explores the ideas and culture surrounding the cataclysmic civil war that engulfed Spain from 1936 to 1939. It features specially commissioned articles from leading historians in Spain, Britain and the US which examine the complex interaction of national and local factors, contributing to the shape and course of the war. They argue that the 'splintering of Spain' resulted from the myriad cultural cleavages of society in the 1930s that are investigated here at both local and national levels. Thus, this book tends to see the civil war less as a single great conflict between two easily identifiable sets of ideas, social classes or ways of life than historians have previously done. The Spanish tragedy, at the level of everyday life, was shaped by many tensions, both those that were formally political and those that were to do with people's perceptions and understanding of the society around them |

IDENTITIES ON THE FRANCOIST SIDE Old symbols, new meanings: mobilising the rebellion in the summer of 1936 Rafael Cruz 'Spain's Vendée': Carlist identity in Navarre as a mobilising model Francisco Javier Caspistegui 'Presenting arms to the blessed sacrament': civil war and Semana Santa in the city of Málaga, 1936-1939 Michael Richards This 2005 book explores the ideas and culture surrounding the cataclysmic civil war that engulfed Spain from 1936 to 1939. The Spanish tragedy, at the level of everyday life, was shaped by many tensions, both those that were formally political and those that were to do with people's perceptions and understanding of the society around them Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Gesellschaft Spanischer Bürgerkrieg (1936-1939) Vorgeschichte (DE-588)4138921-9 gnd rswk-swf Spanischer Bürgerkrieg 1936-1939 (DE-588)4055970-1 gnd rswk-swf Spanien Spain / History / Civil War, 1936-1939 / Social aspects 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Spanischer Bürgerkrieg 1936-1939 (DE-588)4055970-1 s Vorgeschichte (DE-588)4138921-9 s 2\p DE-604 Geschichte z 3\p DE-604 Ealham, Chris edt Richards, Michael 1961- edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-17320-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-82178-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511497025 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
