Zusammenfassung: | Freedom Bound is about the origins of modern America - a history of colonizing, work and civic identity from the beginnings of English presence on the mainland until the Civil War. It is a history of migrants and migrations, of colonizers and colonized, of households and servitude and slavery, and of the freedom all craved and some found. Above all it is a history of the law that framed the entire process. Freedom Bound tells how colonies were planted in occupied territories, how they were populated with migrants - free and unfree - to do the work of colonizing and how the newcomers secured possession. It tells of the new civic lives that seemed possible in new commonwealths and of the constraints that kept many from enjoying them. It follows the story long past the end of the eighteenth century until the American Civil War, when - just for a moment - it seemed that freedom might finally be unbound |

Freedom Bound is about the origins of modern America - a history of colonizing, work and civic identity from the beginnings of English presence on the mainland until the Civil War. It follows the story long past the end of the eighteenth century until the American Civil War, when - just for a moment - it seemed that freedom might finally be unbound Geschichte 1580-1865 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Wirtschaft Labor / United States / History Labor laws and legislation / United States / History National characteristics, American Wirtschaftliche Lage (DE-588)4248362-1 gnd rswk-swf Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 gnd rswk-swf Soziale Situation (DE-588)4077575-6 gnd rswk-swf Recht (DE-588)4048737-4 gnd rswk-swf Kulturelle Identität (DE-588)4033542-2 gnd rswk-swf Bürger (DE-588)4008764-5 gnd rswk-swf Arbeit (DE-588)4002567-6 gnd rswk-swf USA United States / Colonization United States / History / Colonial period, ca. 1600-1775 United States / History / Revolution, 1775-1783 United States / History / 1783-1865 United States / Economic conditions / To 1865 United States / Social conditions / To 1865 USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Soziale Situation (DE-588)4077575-6 s Wirtschaftliche Lage (DE-588)4248362-1 s Arbeit (DE-588)4002567-6 s Recht (DE-588)4048737-4 s Bürger (DE-588)4008764-5 s Kulturelle Identität (DE-588)4033542-2 s Nationalbewusstsein (DE-588)4041282-9 s Geschichte 1580-1865 z 1\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-13777-5 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-76139-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511778575 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
