Zusammenfassung: | The fifteen essays in this volume offer a comprehensive look at the role of American military forces in Germany. The American military forces in the Federal Republic of Germany after WWII played an important role not just in the NATO military alliance but also in German-American relations as a whole. Around twenty-two-million US servicemen and their dependants have been stationed in Germany since WWII, and their presence has contributed to one of the few successful American attempts at democratic nation building in the twentieth century. In the social and cultural realm the GIs helped to Americanize Germany, and their own German experiences influenced the US civil rights movement and soldier radicalism. The US military presence also served as a bellwether for overall relations between the two countries |

Browder The fifteen essays in this volume offer a comprehensive look at the role of American military forces in Germany. The US military presence also served as a bellwether for overall relations between the two countries United States / Army / Foreign service / Germany (West) / History Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1945-1990 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Americans / Germany (West) Sociology, Military / Germany (West) Sociology, Military / United States / History / 20th century Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 gnd rswk-swf Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 gnd rswk-swf USA United States / Armed Forces / Germany (West) / History United States / Military relations / Germany (West) Germany (West) / Military relations / United States Deutschland Bundesrepublik (DE-588)4011889-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content 2\p (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2000 Heidelberg gnd-content Deutschland Bundesrepublik (DE-588)4011889-7 g USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Soldat (DE-588)4055409-0 s Geschichte 1945-1990 z 3\p DE-604 Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 s 4\p DE-604 Maulucci, Thomas W. edt Junker, Detlef 1939- (DE-588)107490641 edt Erscheint auch als Druckschrift 978-0-521-85133-6 Erscheint auch als Druckschrift 978-1-107-55972-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139020695 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
