EMOTIONS, TECHNOLOGY,
AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Edited bySHARON Y. TETTEGAH
Every manner of emotion finds expression on, and through, the social media sphere as
our digital culture evolves to keep us connected everywhere and always—
Technology, and Social Media explores this expression within a psychological theoretical
framework and begins by addressing feelings about social media and its role in education
and knowledge generation. Next it investigates the manifestation of feelings within social
media spaces, and then proposes a paradigm of active audience consumption to use
social media in expressing emotions and maintaining social connectivity.
• Discusses the significant relationships between Web 2.0 technologies and learning
traits
• Presents a discussion of novel methodological approaches for studying emotions on
Facebook and Twitter about Facebook
• Investigates the shared emotions in the construction of crowdfunding
• Analyzes how families choose social media platforms to maintain ties and connections
• Examines the emotions evoked by sociopolitical movements through Twitter
• Details prior literature on adolescent use of media while expressing concern for how
adolescents regulate their emotions
• Links learning, social reflections and how teachers and students perceive and
experience Facebook
Emotions, Technology, Social Media is part of the Emotions and Technology:
Communication of Feelings for, with, and through Digital Media series edited by
Sharon Tettegah. The series provides a variety of conceptual, theoretical, and practical
perspectives on the intersection of psychology, technology, and emotions. Volume topics
include Games, Behaviors, Learning, Design, Design and Learning, Health Technology, and
Mobile Technology. Each volume provides unique contributions critical to understanding
the ways in which our minds, through technology, are profoundly involved in learning,
teaching, communicating, and developing social relationships in the 21st century.
