Resume
”The Patriotic Activity in Anamorava
The first part of this book The Patriotic Activity in
Anamorava is a perennial work I have researched and studied
in different stages of the political developments in Kosovo;
more specifically, in Anamorava. In the book I brought up facts
that so far have been non-researched or deliberately ignored by
the Yugoslav authorities, and also by some pseudo-scientists
who intentionally did not want to enlighten enough this part of
Kosova -Anamorava.
Annexation of Kosovo from Serbia was only part of the
injustice that was done to Albanians in the communist
Yugoslavia - because the issue of Kosovo Albanians was not
quite the case. Injustice done to Albanian population in the
former Yugoslavia was further strengthened by partitioning of
the Albanian territories, where Albanians were the only
population or a majority population of three Yugoslav
republics: the Republic of Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
Kosovo, not only broke away from the parent trunk, but also
from which were taken off not only territories inhabited solely
or principally with the Albanian population in western
Macedonia and Montenegro, but also Presheva, Bujanoc and
Medvegja, in which Albanians were an overwhelming majority.
After the annexation of Kosovo, a dark stage began for
the Albanian people - a real cavalry. Again mass atrocities on
innocent populations began, and numerous intellectuals and
patriots were liquidated during that time. A factual genocide
was occurring in the Gjilan district and in many other parts of
Kosovo. Jusuf Ibrahimi, who was Youth Battalion Commander,
and many others from Gjilan were liquidated. Although
Kosovo was occupied, it still was treated as a dangerous and

unsafe area because it was inhabited by non-Slavic majority
population, who were oppressed and discriminated against —
therefore the occupant feared it. All these injustices created
resentment in Albanians for a reason. A better and quicker
organization was expected by Albanian patriots and
intellectuals. During this period, under the constant pressure,
organized nationalist forces were bom and acted illegally in
order to reach their supreme primary goal: the liberation of
Kosovo and joining the home country - Albania.
The core of nationalist forces for the formation of the
Albanian Democratic Army can be found in March of 1945.
After the formation of the Supreme Committee of Adem
Glavica on December 1,1944, the idea that in every part of
Kosovo where ethnic Albanians live there should be patriotic
organizations and Albanian illegal groups formed was bom. In
the course of this activity of the illegal movement, Albanian
patriotic organizations were formed after 1944 and in early
1945. In these years, the most powerful nationalist movements
were formed by the occupied population: Albanian National
Democratic Movement (ANDM), National Oath (NO),
Organization No. 2 and the Council of the Twelve, and some
others. In these nationalist groups the new Albanian nationalist
intelligentsia was widely represented - which aspired to a
united and democratic Albania. This process in the history of
ANDM was singled with the largest number of arrested and
convicted members. That same year, on May 24th Isa Dujaka
was senteced with twenty years in prison; Muharrem Alija with
seven years in prison; Alush Zeneli with five years in prison;
Qemal Kallaba with three years in prison; and Mete
Shipashnica with five years in prison. There were judicial
processes going on in Anamorava also after year 1947, such as
the case of Ramadan Bejta group, which consisted of nine
people, of which two men were sentenced to firing squad and
others from 20 to 15 years in prison.
After the liquidation of the patriotic group of Hasan Ali
Remnik with friends by the police and Yugoslav Army, the

UDBA200 members were not satisfied yet. After this painful and
tragic event for the Albanian people, there were punitive
measures put against all those who knew or cooperated with
them by the rulers. After the event that shook the population of
Anamorava, the days thereafter were steeped in anxiety.
Without warning or notice, arresting people at all times in
every village of this district began.
According to some data taken from the Archive of
Kosovo, it can be stated that for a very short time there were
over 41 people arrested who allegedly fled, supported and
protected Hasan Remnik. They later went to the judges, who
organized many of the assembled lengthy legal processes. The
Serbian judges pronounced draconian sentences to them,
ranging from 1 to 101 years in prison. While those who
expressed openly the dissatisfaction and revolt against the
system and the Yugoslav re-occupation, were sentenced to
death firing squad. According to the statistics that we have, but
also, according to some other data, all these people were
pronounced on 492.6 years in total in prison, while three other
people were shot: Qazim Ismail, Veli Ibrahim Ymeri, and Ay din
Ali Shabani.
To put as many Albanian as possible in prisons, the
newly installed occupying power had invented different ways
to achieve their goal. One of the most preferred ways of UDB
that was used during the years 1947-1954 was targeting all
those who in one way or another took care of the numerous
fugitives who were in hiding from the new Yugoslav occupying
force. The Yugoslav authorities began to have under
surveillance and targeted the people who housed, maintained
and assisted with food, weapons and with information the
fugitives. All those who helped the escapees were starting to be

labeled by the authorities with a common name — jatake 201.
Avdyl Dura was undoubtedly a warrior, who dedicated his
entire life to the national cause of the unification of Kosovo with
Albania. During the research I have conducted on the Albanian
illegal movement, Avdyl Dura was found in almost every
meeting where decisions for continuing war against the new
and old occupants of the Albanian territories were taken. He
with his commitment and work had caught the attention of the
occupants of Kosovo. He had been persecuted during World
War II by the Bulgarians, as well as after the war, in 1945, by the
Serbian rulers of the former Yugoslavia.
It should not be left unmentioned the illegal patriotic
Organization of the Anamorava patriot, intellectual, and
teacher Metush Krasniqi; Revolutionary Committee for the
Unification of Kosovo with Albania was formed in May of
1960. Initially, the organizers and founders of the organization
were: Kadri Halimi, Ali Aliu, and Ramadan Hoxha. All of them
had been politically persecuted (1952-1954) earlier, and had
experienced being in Goli Otok prison; like Kadri Halimi and
Ali Aliu, while Ramadan Hoxha had been in prison of Srem in
Mitrovica. The activity of this organization took place mainly in
the form of triples, and according to some documents, there
was a considerable number of members involved. Even this, as
well as other illegal organizations had its own program that
mainly supported the requirements of the Albanian League of
Prizren, League of Peja, Bujan Conference, and the Albanian
Democratic National Organization.
Over the years of terror and violence, in 1962, in Gjilan
the illegal organization Mujo Ulqinaku was formed, which
was led by poet Rexhep Elmazi. The organization in its
program aimed for supreme commitment and struggle for
liberation and national unification. Within two years while the
organization was functioning, its members, who were mostly
young person, were involved in some actions in Gjilan such as:

writing and distributing numerous banners, raising national
flags, and distributing stickers in many neighborhoods and
villages.
Although the government bodies were claiming that
they had destroyed completely the Albanian illegal
movement, they were wrong — since the ANDM organization
still did not stop its activity. This was best witnessed by
organizing subsequent trials held all across Albanian territories.
Those in power wanted to hide the bitter truth and create a
false image of the Albanian population living happily and in
peace in the southern part of Serbia, but the Albanian people
still felt and expressed their disappointment, anger and revolt
against the Serbian occupation.
They thought that with the terror of unprecedented evil
they will kneel down an entire population, and they will force
them to renounce their millennium aspirations — for a national
unification of an Albania neither great nor small, but an
Albania with its true ethnic borders. This was the supreme goal
of all the illegal organizations. So even today it is the duty and
obligation of all Albanians to learn from the historical
sufferings that were imposed and are being imposed by current
time and events.
In the lengthy judicial processes that were organized
against ANDM members, the judges pronounced severe
sentences with over ten years in prison, and most of them were
sent to serve in prison of Srem in Mitrovica. Therefore it was
quite natural that the meetings of Albanian prisoners to be
more frequent and as a time imperative, it was needed to take
further steps to an illegal organizing even in the new prison
conditions.
The ANDM members, even though they were
imprisoned, some of the prisoners, did not interrupt their
patriotic work in the cold cells. Following the arrest and
conviction to Raif Cërmica with 20 years in prison, he was sent
in prison of Srem in Mitrovica. His prison number was 10 —
which makes us believe that he is one of the first prisoners in

the prison. He was not alone there. Immediately after placing
him there, he contacted many other Albanian prisoners who
were sentenced to many years of prison. The situation in
Yugoslav prisons was heavy. They were not only threatened by
the guardians any time who were hostile to Albanians, but the
danger came also from within - from prisoners who have been
ordered and paid to make the life more miserable to the
Albanian prisoners. The risk was even greater from the
Chetniks who were imprisoned and accidentally put in their
rooms.
The Albanian woman also takes part in a separate
chapter to all this misfortune and hardship of the Albanian
population throughout history, like always. The ones who for
that heavy burden had carried on their shoulders, as pillars of
granite, as true heroines, those mothers - our wives and our
sisters unequivocally deserve eternal monuments and respect
as genuine national survivals.
