Beschreibung: | More than a literary study, this book is an analysis of sexual attitudes and practices in the Romantic period, and a contribution to the history and theory of feminism. In exploring the many aspects of his subject, Brown compares Shelley with his contemporaries, particularly Byron, and draws upon extensive research into the laws, ideas, and practices of the period More than a literary study, this book is an analysis of sexual attitudes and practices in the Romantic period, and a contribution to the history and theory of feminism. Shelley is shown to have anticipated in many ways the work of modern students of human sexual behavior. He was strikingly ahead of his time in his attitude toward women: his ideal of love postulated the equality of the sexes, and his theory of psychosexual identification, like mated to like, extended the feminist ideology of his mother-in-law, Mary Wollstonecraft. Moreover, in his own person and practice he came close to the androgynous ideal of the modern woman's movement. Harvard University Press [1979] 1 Online-Ressource (298p.) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier More than a literary study, this book is an analysis of sexual attitudes and practices in the Romantic period, and a contribution to the history and theory of feminism. In exploring the many aspects of his subject, Brown compares Shelley with his contemporaries, particularly Byron, and draws upon extensive research into the laws, ideas, and practices of the period In English Shelley, Percy Bysshe 1792-1822 (DE-588)118613774 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1793-1825 gnd rswk-swf Feminism and literature / England / History / 19th century Feminist poetry, English / History and criticism Geschichte Englische Literatur Sex in literature Feminism in literature Sexualité dans la littérature Féminisme dans la littérature Literatur Sexualität Frauenbewegung Erotik (Motiv) Sexualität (DE-588)4054684-6 gnd rswk-swf Erotik Motiv (DE-588)4123157-0 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Frauenbewegung (DE-588)4071428-7 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Shelley, Percy Bysshe 1792-1822 (DE-588)118613774 p Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Frauenbewegung (DE-588)4071428-7 s Geschichte 1793-1825 z 1\p DE-604 Sexualität (DE-588)4054684-6 s 2\p DE-604 Erotik Motiv (DE-588)4123157-0 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-674-73184-4 https://doi.org/10.4159/harvard.9780674731851 Verlag Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
