The Bibliography of Skopje by Mr
Skender
Asani
is a successful endeavour of
historical and scientific importance. Mr
Asani,
a renowned scholar, has long been working
and researching the bibliography of Skopje
which involves its historical past. He has now
published his first volume of this
bibliography, which brings together some of
his research on Skopje. In effect this is an
essential volume which serves as an
indispensable tool for other scientific writings.
Although it leaves out the descriptive element
of other works and essays on Skopje, it is of
crucial importance for those who intend to
write or those who wish to learn of other
scholars who for many years have been
working on this problematic issue.
It is widely recognised that there has
not been a bibliography about Skopje and its
people in the Albanian language. Mr Asani s
bibliography represents the first step in this
field. His work has certainly required a
painstaking research in a number of libraries
for many years. It is understandable therefore

that the author has not included in this
volume all of the monographs and essays
where Skopje has been mentioned. This has
led the author to continue his work and in the
future to publish other volumes because
Skopje s importance is illustrated by the
works of ancient Greeks, Romans, and
especially by the writers of the post Ottoman
conquest period.
The author has, in the framework of
this bibliography aligned to the Albanian
alphabetical order, provided an outline of the
monographs, scientific essays and newspaper
articles. He has managed to include in this
book
1, 540
units of scientific and journalistic
character.
Bibliography of Skopje by Mr Skender
Asani
will undoubtedly benefit the historical
records. Not only does it shed light on the
bibliography and is of scientific importance
but it also helps scholars to learn of other
writers who have written about the history of
Skopje, which would be beneficial to their
work.
In this bibliography, Mr
Asani
has
entered the titles of various authors that he
has come across in the libraries of Skopje,
Tirana and
Pristina
-
from medieval times to

present
day
-
including everyone that has
touched on the subject either in their book,
essay or extract. He has achieved this as an
unbiased scholar unlike the Serb historians
who, being manipulated by political
institutions, have not included such writings
in their bibliographies about Skopje.
It is widely known that in the works of
this volume there are interesting recordings
on the history and continuity of Skopje as a
city, and its economic and urban development
throughout the centuries. It should be noted
that the continuity of this work within the
parameters of the science of bibliography will
be of interest to the history of Skopje in
particular and the whole Albanian
historiography in general, including here the
Albanian bibliography.
The printing of Mr Asani s Bibliography
of Skopje is important and invaluable for
history students but also for general readers
too. It is hoped that the author s intensive
work will continue within the parameters that
bibliography demands, in a way matching the
standards in the developed world.
